When there is an intermediate means of cold transport we call it indirect expansion, where the intermediate fluid normally used is ice water.
Indirect expansion systems have many names, some depending on the type of air conditioner used and others depending on the type of chiller unit used.
The most common names used are:
• Air-cooled chiller;
• Water-cooled chiller.
