It is widely used in chill chambers and even in frozen storage chambers or freezing tunnels. In industrial refrigeration should only lose to the defrost by hot gas.
It consists in passing rainwater over the evaporator by means of a tray or perforated tubes so as to obtain a good distribution. The water flow should be abundant (2 to 3 L / s per m3 of face area) to melt the ice rapidly and take the
evaporator, tray and drain. It is the fastest defrosting process.
