The centrifugal pump is more used and more suitable for large displacement volumes.
The laws of centrifugal pumps generally apply here.
Care is needed with the suction column (NPSH) because it works with liquids at saturation pressure.
In the assembly one must have change for some rules:
• check valves must not be mounted with the vertical rod to prevent formation of vapor pockets;
• Pipeline transformations must follow the criteria of avoiding the formation of vapor pockets;
• the piping should be as short as possible and of a diameter that allows low speed;
• existence of a return valve to the separator to keep the pressure in the line constant;
• existence of differential pressure switch between suction and discharge to avoid operation without liquid displacement;
• attention to the cooling of bearings and lubrication in some types of pumps that require special systems;
• careful cleaning of the suction pipe.
