This type of evaporator is one of the most used in the refrigeration industry for the
cooling of liquids. It is manufactured in a wide range of capacities, it can be of the flooded type, with gravity feed, in which the refrigerant evaporates outside the tubes and the liquid to be cooled flows inside the tubes, or of direct expansion or pump circulation, in that the refrigerant flows inside the tubes and the liquid to be cooled flows out of the tubes. It is manufactured in sheets
calendered with cast-iron heads, steel mirrors and tubes of copper or steel, with fins or not. It may contain several passes (or passages) in order to maintain the velocity of the liquid inside the tubes within acceptable limits, avoiding
excessive load losses. It may also contain baffles in the space between the tubes and the casing, which help position the tubes and direct the flow so that the liquid flows perpendicular to the tubes.
