Expanded polystyrene

Polymer of styrene, to which an expander (also called "styropor") was added during the polymerization.
During processing, the pearl-shaped material is foamed by the action of the
Steam. The volume of these particles is increased several times, obtaining a porous foam, formed of closed cells. That is, a highly porous and substantially impermeable plastic material is obtained. This foam is then heated in metal molds to acquire its final shape and stiffness.
A very thin cell structure material is obtained: 350,000 cells / cm 3, the cells having 0.1 to 0.01 mm in diameter. The walls of these cells are 1 to 2 μm thick, with more than 97% of the volume of this body is composed of air.

Types of polystyrene:

Styropor P: transparent and colorless beads for the manufacture of insulation material,
molded bodies, packaging, etc .;
Styrofoam F: Non-flammable, for applications that require this feature.
