This type of evaporator is a particular case of the plate evaporator.
widely used for the freezing of solid, pasty or liquid products.
It is currently made of aluminum foil (special alloy), but in the past mainly copper and steel have been used. Its feed can be by gravity, pump recirculation or direct expansion.
It is most commonly used as shelf coils in freezers. The coolant circulates through the channels, and the product to be frozen is placed between the plates. This type of evaporator can also be produced by the roll-bond system, in which two aluminum plates are taken, on which graphite channels of the desired shape are printed. The plates are then joined by heating at 500 ° C (the heating does not occur at the points where graphite is present). Finally, the channels are expanded under a pressure of up to 150 bar, removing the graphite and leaving the format of the channels.
