Terminology used in refrigeration

Ice water
Refrigerant medium that removes heat from the area to be refrigerated and gives heat to the cooler.

Air cushion
Air trapped in pipes and equipment, such as radiators, etc., which prevents maximum heat transfer; trapped air on the suction side of a pump, causing loss of suction.

Ammonia
Commercially called anhydrous, it is a refrigerant (NH3).

Anhydrous
Water-free, especially water of crystallization

Saturated air
It is a mixture of dry air and saturated water vapor. More precisely, it is the water vapor that is saturated and not the air.

Unsaturated air
It is a mixture of dry air and superheated water vapor.
