What is a direct and indirect expansion system?

 In the direct expansion system the Coolant expands in contact with the air of the air-conditioned environment. Example: air conditioning, window, self, splits. In the indirect expansion system an intermediate fluid is used to acclimatise the air. Fan-coil-chiller example that uses water as an intermediate fluid.
