How does the system compare by absorption with the compression system?
In an absorption system, the pressure rise is produced by the heat supplied by the circulation of vapor or other suitable gas or fluid through a coil or tube. The generator-absorber assembly does the work of the compressor in the sense that the absorber replaces the suction stroke and the generator replaces the stroke of the compressor. The evaporator sprinkler corresponds to the expansion valve. The evaporator and the condenser are the same, both in the absorption system and in the compression system. The absorption refrigeration cycle uses two phenomena: (1) an absorption solution (absorber plus refrigerant) can absorb refrigerant vapors; (2) the refrigerant boils (cools) when subjected to a lower pressure.
