Types of thermal insulation used in refrigeration

Polyurethanes
For use at low temperatures a vapor barrier is required.

Cork
For use at low temperatures a vapor barrier is required.
Molded or granulated and bonded material.
Material of good resistance to shocks and vibrations.

Plastic Foam (Expanded Polystyrene)
Highly used material for low temperature pipes.
For use at low temperatures a vapor barrier is required.

Glass wool
Soft, flexible and lightweight material.
For use at low temperatures a vapor barrier is required.

Mineral Wool (Rock Wool)
Material of higher cost, but can be more economical due to the lower thermal conductivity.
Flexible material capable of absorbing large tube expansions.
Material not recommended for pipes subjected to external loads.
