Single-phase motors are those manufactured to be connected to single-phase mains. According to their connections, they can be connected in 110V or 220V.
The motors normally used in refrigeration are of the distorted field type, and there is also the repulsion type.
Distorted field motors
They are small Engines used in fans, hair dryers, etc. These distorted field motors are also called short circuit or shorted loop motors.
They consist of a stator and a rotor.
The stator has a slot in the polar shoe, which houses a copper ring or short circuit. And it's the fixed part of the engine.
The rotor appears to have no winding, but such winding exists. It is made of short-circuited bars, under the name of squirrel cage or short rotor. The rotor and moving part of the motor.
In the distorted field motor there is no electrical connection between the rotor and the stator, hence the brushes in the universal motor are not found in this motor. All connections are made to the stator, which is the fixed part of the motor
