Flooded Evaporators
The flooded evaporator is characterized by the fact that the refrigerant is circulated by means of a pump (or even by gravity). In this case, the flow of refrigerant is several times greater than the minimum required for complete evaporation in the evaporator. In general, the expansion is done in the engine room, by a mechanical or electronic float, where the flash gas is removed, the evaporator being fed with saturated or undercooled liquid. Because of the excessive flow of refrigerant, part of it can not vaporize completely, leaving the evaporator, therefore, in the saturated state, requiring the installation of a liquid separator, avoiding the return of liquid to the compressor. Their main characteristic is the greater heat transfer capacity and higher temperature stability.
