The first refrigerators using natural ice, at the beginning of the 19th century

Such devices consisted simply of a container, almost always insulated by means of cork boards, in which ice stones and food to be preserved were placed. The melting of the ice absorbed some of the heat from the food and considerably reduced the temperature inside the refrigerator.
