It is a specific standard for pressure vessels for refrigeration to be complied with
in design, manufacture, installation and operation.
• Choice of pressures and designs, operation and testing
• Materials used (generic)
• Precautions and protective devices
• Essays, identification and documentation
• Installation, maintenance and inspection
Some important definitions of this standard are given below.
Pressure vessel: vessel designed to withstand pressures higher than atmospheric pressure:
Design pressure: gauge pressure used to determine characteristics
equipment. It can not be lower than the maximum working pressure of the equipment (PMT).
• Maximum design pressure: gauge pressure that can not be exceeded within the refrigerating system during occupancy or shutdown. Ë the basis of all other pressures considered in the refrigeration plant.
• Design pressure: comprises, at least the saturation pressure of the refrigerant used, at the temperatures of:
- Low pressure side: + 45ºC
- High pressure side:
- Condensation by water or evaporative: + 54ºC
- Condensation by air: + 65ºC
