Oxidation of lubricants used in refrigeration and air conditioning

hermetic compressors provide a long life to the system, letting it rust free. Being a closed system does not enter air or moisture, eliminating the action of oxygen. However, if the system is not properly evacuated, or if there are leaks, the lubricant will be contaminated acids and emerging bubbles. Clean air is the most severe contaminant, but the presence of water leads to more severe decomposition of the lubricant.
