Defective electric motor winding.
Disconnect the power cables from the compressor terminal batteries and check with an ohmmeter, if the resistance of the starting winding and that of the gear is correct; check the mass insulation (dielectric strength test). If tests indicate a winding malfunction, repair or replace the compressor.
