Capillary Tubes

Advantages of Capillary Tubes:

→ Simplicity (no moving parts).
→ Low cost.
→ Allows equalization of system pressures during shutdowns (compressor drive motor can be of low starting torque).
→ Reduce the quantity and cost of the refrigerant and eliminate the need for a collecting tank.

Disadvantages of Capillary Tubes:

→ Impossibility of regulation to satisfy different conditions of load.
→ Risk of foreign matter obstruction.
→ Demand for a refrigerant charge within narrow limits.
→ Reduction of operational efficiency for any variation of the thermal load or the condensing temperature.
