Liquid separator used in refrigerator
The liquid separator is a large diameter pipe which accumulates the refrigerant gas in a liquid state so that it does not return to the compressor. Normally the liquid separator will contain both liquid (bottom) and vapor (top) refrigerant. For efficient system operation, liquid refrigerant gas is not allowed to enter the suction pipe and, to avoid this, the suction pipe is welded to the liquid separator near the top, where there is only accumulated vapor. The coolant must be fully gaseous before leaving the separator.
