The Thermostatic Expansion valve (also known as the Thermal Expansion Valve and Superheat Valve) is basically an automatic expansion valve with the additional feature of having a device that corrects the amount of liquid to be evaporated in the coil so that it match the load on the evaporator.
Still, the necessary force for its activation is obtained from the
overheating of the refrigerant's gaseous state in the evaporator by means of a temperature sensor (also called a “force” element) instead of the spring with an adjustment screw.
