The DPS (Surge Protective Device) protects the electrical installation and its components against overvoltages caused directly by lightning strikes in the building or installation or indirectly caused by lightning strikes in the vicinity of the site. In some cases, overvoltages can also be caused by power connections or disconnections that occur in the electric utility's distribution networks. Overvoltages are responsible, in many cases, for burning electrical and electronic equipment and appliances, particularly those that are more sensitive, such as computers, printers, scanners, TVs, DVD players, fax machines, answering machines, cordless phones, etc.
