The condenser unit (external) is connected to the evaporator unit (internal) through a copper pipe and an electric cable that guarantees the connection of the command and power circuits between the units. To connect the refrigerant circuit between the units, a copper pipe is used, whose diameter is defined by the capacity of the system, by the unevenness between the units. Once the diameters, lengths and gaps are defined, we can install the pipes. First, we mark the path of the pipes and provide the necessary procedures for the passage of this pipe. After that, we must prepare the pipes with welding and verification procedures.
When more than one condenser unit is installed on site, the minimum distances provided for in the equipment catalog must be respected. Recommended minimum clearances are as follows: 20 centimeters between the condensing units, so that the units' discharge air flows are parallel. Another important point is that the direction of the discharge air flow must always be in favor of the prevailing wind of the place.
When the condenser unit is above the evaporator unit, a siphon must be made in the suction line for every 3 meters of unevenness between units. This procedure is done to make it possible to return the oil to the compressor.
When the evaporator unit is above the condenser unit, a siphon must be made at the outlet of the evaporator unit, in the suction line, and the upper curve should be at a level above the evaporator unit. This prevents the return of liquid to the compressor after the system is shut down. For electrical interconnection of the units, we use two cables: a cable for interconnecting the power and another cable for interconnecting the controls. Once the cables and their gauges are defined according to the equipment, we attach the cables to the copper pipe already insulated, thus forming a single set. Then we apply a vinyl tape to the set to produce what is called a “vapor barrier”, which is responsible for preventing condensation and early deterioration of the fluid pipe insulation. Next to the condenser unit, a power socket must be installed to connect the equipment. This socket must be dimensioned according to the equipment's capacity. We must not forget the installation of the ground wire.
An important detail in the installation is the correct positioning of the units in relation to walls, floors, ceilings and obstructions. The evaporator unit must always be positioned so that the supply air flow is parallel to the longest wall. Whenever possible, the appliance should be centered on the wall, respecting the minimum clearances. The unit must be installed at least 1.50 m high and 0.30 m from the side walls and the ceiling. These clearances are important to avoid air return and short circuit. The condensing unit must be installed in a flat and level place. This location must have sufficient structural strength to support the unit and maintenance personnel. The chosen location must have enough space to guarantee the necessary clearances and to carry out the installation and maintenance procedures.
