In domestic refrigerators, three types of evaporators are used: the roll-bond evaporator, the wire tube evaporator and the serpentine finned. The first two are natural convection, used in refrigerators and freezers of conventional defrost; the latter, in turn, used for frost-free systems.
Other types of evaporators such as indirect contact, also called skin evaporators, can be used in some freezers and refrigerators.
