Liquid containers for refrigeration system with ammonia

Liquid containers should be dimensioned so that the maximum level of the
accumulated liquid shall not exceed 70% of the total volume of the container, as
there is the presence of vapor. This does not mean that the container should have the volume to
absorbant of the installation. Usually in large
facilities, it is recommended to dimension a container with
at least 40% of the total installation load or
component (if the volume represents more than 40% of the total load).
The container in normal operation shall operate at a level of at least 1/6 of the
total volume (~ 25% on the level indicator).
Level indicators should be appropriate for working with ammonia at high
pressure, with reflective and tempered glass, and armored body, according to norms
(eg DIN 7081). You should never use those glass tubes with poor protection, the
which expose the safety of the operation team and the facility itself. Besides that,
must have an internal (ball-shaped) retention device that restricts the area of
leakage to a minimum when depressurising the
eventual break.
