From the leak detection, through the Ammonia detection system installed in the industry, the main measures are as follows:
1. Activate the CIPA members, Brigadiers and Engine Room Operators who must be trained for possible evacuation from the site and the use of Level A clothing.
2. Inform the Fire Department and the State Environmental Company, of the leak and the emergency measures taken to resolve or contingent upon it.
In large ammonia leaks, water must be sprayed over the leak to force the hydration reaction and hydroxide formation to ammonia, which in an aerosolized state, behaves like a dense gas. In the form of dense gas it can be diluted through mechanical ventilation to control the concentration of toxic gas, even in open environments, within the levels determined by the safety standards defined by the company. These standards must be contained in the Emergency Care Plan and Risk Management Program.
