The use of a fixed ammonia detection system with the installation of detectors inside the engine room and industrial environments is recommended to protect the industrial refrigeration system as a whole (operators, employees and machinery). The IIAR (International Ammonia Refrigeration Institute) also recommends the installation of a control box for the emergency cooling system, which disconnects all electrical equipment and activates the fixed or portable mechanical exhaust ventilation whenever necessary. Through continuous monitoring of the ammonia concentration in the engine room, when certain levels are reached, alarms will be triggered to take protective control actions.
