There are several types of liquid chillers. They differ from each other based on the refrigeration cycle or type of compressor used.
Absorption chillers use the absorption refrigeration cycle and there is no mechanical compression involved in the process.
Chillers using the steam compression refrigeration cycle vary by the type of compressor used. Reciprocal and scroll compressors are used primarily in small chillers. Screw-type compressors are typically applied to medium capacity chillers. Centrifugal compressors are used in large capacity chillers.
