Type of power supply are motors of direct current and alternating current.
Continuous Chain Motors
They are higher cost motors and, moreover, need a direct current source, or a device that converts ordinary alternating current to continuous. They can operate with adjustable speed between wide limits and lend themselves to flexibility and precision controls. Therefore, its use is restricted to special cases where these requirements outweigh the higher cost of the installation.
Alternating Current Motors
They are the most used, because all the distribution of electric energy is made in alternating current.
We can also classify them as to the operation and type of network to which they are connected in:
Synchronous Motor
It works with fixed speed; used only for large powers (due to its high cost in smaller sizes) and when invariable speed is required.
Induction Motor (Asynchronous)
It operates normally at a constant speed, which varies slightly with the mechanical load applied to the shaft. Due to its great simplicity, robustness and low cost, it is the most used type of motor of all, being suitable for almost all the types of machines found in the practice.
